Stanford University computer science professor Rajeev Motwani drowns

Tech world lost one of the mentors of Google, Rajeev Motwani. He was a key mentor of Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page and many other entrepreneurs. Apparently he drowned in his swimming pool at his home in Atherton, Calif.

Google found posted this on his blog:

Brin wrote in his blog June 5 that although Motwani was not his official advisor at Stanford, “he played just as big a role in my research, education, and professional development. In addition to being a brilliant computer scientist, Rajeev was a very kind and amicable person and his door was always open…Today, whenever you use a piece of technology, there is a good chance a little bit of Rajeev Motwani is behind it.”

Quirky

Quirky is an “online social product development company”. For a non-refundable $99 fee, you get to submit an idea for a product that, if selected (by the quirky community, ostensibly), will be developed (again, by said community) and sold on the quirky website. Profits are distributed amongst the “influencers” according to their amount of input. Pictured is their first product, a cable storage case called… the Slingback.

This sounds like a good idea for those who have tons of ideas that maybe the next infomercial waiting to happen.
