Facebook snags former TipJoy Co-Founder


Facebook tried to acquire TipJoy through an all stock offer of around 5 million dollars. But the deal fell through but Facebook left with TipJoy's CTO and founder Ivan Kirigin. Since TipJoy was a micro-payments service, expect Ivan Kirigin to work on some type of payment service for Facebook.

Bing strikes deal with Wolfram Alpha


Microsoft's Bing will be able to use Wolfram Alpha's specialized scientific and computational content that Wolfram Alpha generates. Through the licensing deal Bing gets some improvement from Wolfram ALpha unique search engine.

Posterous - simple blogging service


Posterous is a new kind of free blogging service. Instead of signing up, all you have to do is email post@posterous.com from your Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL mail account and see your post on your own subdomain. Posterous also allow you to have a custom domain. The blogging service seems to be geared toward media as in photos and youtube vids. Looks like it has the potentitial to be the next Twitter of free blogging services.

GDGT is off to a good start with Amazon, Cnet and CBS possible intersted in acquiring the site or partnering with the site in some way. The social gadget site run by Peter Rojas and Ryan Block maybe soon to be acquired by someone, possibly Amazon.com.

Blogger turns 10 years old this year. Blogger in my opinion is still the best free blogging service. With ability to make money with adsense, and have a custom domain name. It simple and straight forward.

Google Gmail passes AOL, becomes 3rd most popular email


Google's Gmail email service has surpassed AOL and in doing so became the third most popular email service. In seven months Gmail is projected to pass Windows Live Hotmail.

Ebay adds a new feature called Top-Rated Seller Status. This new badge was announce for the upcoming holiday season. Sellers with excellent customer service will get this badge along with 20% off final value fees. Ebay will immediately qualify 150,000 eBay Top-Rated Sellers in the U.S. when the program goes live in October 2009.

Facebook acquires FriendFeed for $47.5M


Facebook has purchased social aggregator FriendFeed for $47.5 million. FriendFeed is a less known startup that connects all your social networks together. With this acquition Facebook could become a bigger player against Google. Google hasn't been able to get in the social network scene. And Facebook is trying to expand to a full one stop portal. So who know's when the two collide.

RockMelt takes on IE, Firefox and Chrome. Back by Netscape founder Marc Andreessen, RockMelt next-generation Web browser will have to take on the current crop of browsers. The browser may implement Facebook integration. No other details were mentioned.

Rupert Murdoch plans to charge to view news websites by 2010. So this ends the freeride for premium news sites. Now if you want to read the Times or Sun online you will have to pay a subscription fee.

USPS closing hundreds of post offices


Looks like USPS is considering closing hundreds of post offices. Even 3 larger post office in my area are on the possible hit list. This could mean more people will have to travel a little farther to find a post office.

Even with price of stamps and service increases and cuts in employees can not save the post offices.

With Google now entering markets that Apple are in, it was obvious that Google CEO Eric Schmidt has to resign from the Apple Board. And now he has step down from the position.

Mark Madsen buys hacked domain


Basketball player Mark Madsen does more than play hoops. He is apparently into buying domains and sell them for a profit. But his latest purchase of website p2p.com hasn't gone too well as it was an hacked account sold unauthorized. Madsen purchased the domain for $111,000 off of Ebay. Police have arrested Daniel Gonclave who is suspecting of doing the hacking. No word if the original owner of P2P.com will get his domain back.

Microsoft to ship IE with Windows 7 in Europe


Instead of not having IE with Windows 7 in Europe, MS has come with another option. And that is to offer the user the choice between IE or another browser. When launching the internet for the first time, users will get the option of what browser they like to select. Microsoft has received positive feedback from the European Commission but may revert back to not shipping IE at all with Windows 7.
